A dental filling is often used to treat a tooth that suffers from a small cavity or a minor dental fracture. The special material used to repair the tooth is not vulnerable to further tooth decay. However, poor oral hygiene habits can gradually weaken the bond between the dental filling and the surrounding tooth enamel.
As this happens you might notice discomfort in the tooth, heightened sensitivity, or a gray color developing in the tooth. If you are experiencing a problem with one of your dental fillings you should not delay in seeking treatment at Dr. Swapna Nadikuda’s dental office.
If the bad filling is small Dr. Swapna Nadikuda might be able to treat the tooth by removing it and applying a new dental filling. If the distressed filling is large, she might recommend restoring the entire tooth enamel layer with a dental crown.
After numbing the tooth Dr. Swapna Nadikuda will use a drill to remove the filling and any remaining tooth enamel. This will leave a small post which is known as an abutment. It will eventually anchor your dental crown in your mouth.
A detailed impression is made of the abutment and any other related teeth in the area. This will be sent to a dental lab where technicians will prepare your dental crown. A temporary crown will be secured over the abutment to protect it.
Your will need to come in for a second appointment when your dental crown is ready. The temporary crown will be removed and Dr. Swapna Nadikuda will cement your dental crown onto the abutment.
