Advice on How to Achieve Strong and Healthy Gums

Posted .

Do you ever wonder what it takes to keep your gums in tip-top shape? If so, our NR Family Dentistry team is here to help you! It’s very important to keep your gums clean and pristine so you can prevent and fight major dental issues. To help you care for your oral tissues each day, Dr. Swapna Nadikuda and our team recommend doing the following things:

-Brush: Brush your teeth twice a day (every morning and every night) for two minutes each time. Brush with a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. Brushing with a soft-bristled brush will clean your smile without harming or irritating your gums. Brushing in general will also help remove the harmful particles from your teeth that create gum disease and other major dental issues.

-Floss: Floss your teeth at least once a day with a flossing product of your choice. Flossing will help you remove the plaque and food particles from between your teeth, which is beneficial because it helps reduce your chances of falling victim to the early stages of gum disease. As you floss, please make sure to be gentle along the gumline.

-Rinse: Rinse your mouth once a day with a beneficial mouthwash, like antibacterial mouthwash. Rinsing will help you complete the cleaning job and kill the bacteria that threaten your teeth and gums. As you rinse, please be sure to follow the instructions on the bottle.

-Visit the dentist: It’s vital that you visit your dentist every six months if you want the best gums possible. Your six month checkups include the only treatment that can completely remove the plaque from your smile and protect your gums from gum disease. So, please keep up with your appointments.
